Essential Oils, Drops of Health

One of the most exciting parts of yoga teacher training was the opportunity to dabble in things that I had previously not known very much about. One of those things was essential oils. In school we were shown how to use essential oils during savasana, on eye pillows and in diffusers. I was definitely intrigued but in that time and space….I was too busy becoming a yoga teacher and building my own practice to add one more thing. I released it, knowing that when I was ready, I would learn how to  incorporate essential oils into my life.

As is always the case….When  the student is ready, the teacher appears. She did in fact appear, at a networking meeting in a St. Petersburg cupcake bakery. Strange but true. I met Christine, and her husband James, doTERRA essential oil wellness advocates at a networking meeting where I was  representing the studio. We immediately hit it off.

They are both wildly funny, energetic beyond reason and brilliant about all things essential oils. That was five months ago.  At that point, my essential oil use was limited to spraying it throughout the studio, using it to clean our yoga mats and wearing it as yogi perfume.

Now, I am putting it on my toothbrush, using it for pain management, ingesting it like food and diffusing it throughout our living space with abandon. Now that I know that essential oils are an effective way to help your body restore itself to it’s own natural healing state…..I want to wear them, eat them and smell them all the time.

Last week, for the first time ever, I replaced a handful of Ibuprofen (not good for my stomach and not at all natural) with three essential oils. I have to be honest with you…..I was skeptical because I was in a lot of pain. I did it because I was actually on a conference call with the aforementioned funny, energetic and brilliant Christine.

I told her about my horrific pain and she told me to rub three different oils on it, one by one. I really wanted to swallow 4 Ibuprofen with a bottle of red wine. Out of respect and curiosity, I did what Christine suggested….and it worked. It took my pain down from a definite 10 to a moderate 5. I did it again several hours later, just like you would repeat a handful of Ibuprofen and  it worked again. It kind of blew my mind.

Fast forward a week later……I sent  Christine a late night text with swollen glands and a funky throat. She told me to put drops of Oregano oil into a carrier oil and rub it on my feet (I beg your pardon), put socks on and go to bed. When I woke up,  the swelling in my throat and glands was gone. So there’s that.

I can’t explain it either. I am new to this too, but the benefits I have already experienced have left me wanting more.  Our bodies want to heal, they are wired to heal….they just need our support. Essential oils provide that support in many different, natural ways. I think that is extraordinary and I am enjoying learning more about these little drops of health.

Think of it this way….what do we have to lose by trying? They taste good, smell good and feel good to use.

Christine will be hosting a series of essential oils classes for us at the studio beginning in February!! Can’t wait to learn more, try new things and find new ways to take gentle care of myself and my loved ones.

I do accept as true with all the ideas you’ve presented to your post. They are really convincing and will definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are too short for newbies. Could you please extend them a bit from next time? Thank you for the post.

Thank you Tayna. So glad that you are also interested in Essential Oils. You may find some more helpful information about the benefits of essential oils from doTERRA. doTERRA is a good reference point, as they describe the importance of using human-grade, consumable oils. http://www.doterra.com As with all wellness journeys, take your time, learn about your options and incorporate what works best for you.
